On March 11,2020 World Health Organization(WHO) declared the Covid-19 a pandemic. A pandemic occurs when a disease that people are not immune to spreads rapidly across large regions.
It seems that the world has fallen a prey to the disease that has already caused 18,930 deaths(as updated on March 25,2020) and 424,069 infected people worldwide. Italy has the highest Coronavirus death toll in the world. After the origin country China, now it is Italy ranked first followed by USA which is battling 50000 above active cases of the virus.
Covid-19 initially started as an epidemic in Wuhan, a city in the Hubei province of China. The first cases were reported way back in December 2019. However, observing the rapid geographical spread across regions it was declared to be a pandemic later on March 2020 by WHO.
Although the first transmission of the Coronavirus to humans lies unclear, reports and updates state the strain may have come from bats.
After the reports of the first few cases acknowledged in Wuhan, it was determined that this virus has spreads through person-to-person contact.
It is now very likely proven that the Covid-19 spreads through close contact with an infected person.
When people with COVID-19 breathe out or cough, they expel tiny droplets that contain the virus. These droplets can enter the mouth or nose of someone without the virus, causing an infection to occur.
Droplets containing the virus can also land on nearby surfaces or objects. Other people can pick up the virus by touching these surfaces or objects. Infection is likely if the person then touches their nose, eyes, or mouth.
It is to mention that this Covid-19 is new and research is still on-going. It may come out that there can be other ways the new Coronavirus could be spread.
The primary symptoms include: fever, persistent cough, and shortness of breadth.
However, it is stated that it may take upto 14 days after exposure to virus for the symptoms to show up.
Keeping an eye on the current crisis of the Coronavirus, most countries have taken measures to prevent the spread of the virus rapidly. India, China, France, Italy, New Zealand, Poland and the UK have implemented the world’s largest and most restrictive mass quarantines.
After a surge in Covid-19 cases in Italy, the whole country was put on lockdown on March 10,2020.
Spain and France followed suit, ordering residents to stay at home.
India’s lockdown became the largest quarantine outside of China, with 1.3 billion people confined to their homes, as of March 24,2020.
